Creating habits that are actually fun

We live in a world that is becoming obsessed with the step-by-step guide on how to live perfectly. Follow these steps to be more productive. Learn how to achieve happiness. Make more money with this hack. Lose weight and get the body of your dreams with this simple switch. The advice comes at us in waves of blog articles, Instagram quotes, podcasts, self-help books and inspiring talks. But one thing stands out to me amongst it all – it’s all about achieving the goal. That body, this deadline, that holiday and all those followers!

Now don’t get me wrong, I love a good goal to work towards but this last chapter of my life has been my happiest yet, and for me it has purely come down to enjoying it more. I relish in drinking a cuppa every morning, I dedicate time to hanging with good friends, I scrape together extra coins to catch some live music, I read inspiring magazines and, most of all, I make time to dance (with no work agenda).

All of these things have become my habits. No, not habits to be more productive, more fit or more mindful – just fun habits -because I’ve decided it’s important to become bloody good at prioritising fun shit.

At the end of day, we’ve been given a chance to live this beautiful phenomenon called life and so many of us forget to actually live it.

On that note, I’m off to go call my mum.
